Privacy partner on post-Brexit Britain: "alternative arrangements will be more more complicated and labour intensive"
Antonis Patrikios, partner in Fieldfisher's market leading Privacy, Security and Information group, responded to comments made by a Europol executive on data security in a post-Brexit Britain.
In an article published in Cyber Security Law & Practice (27th September 2016), Antonis said:
"...alternative arrangements will be more complicated, labour-intensive and costly than the current situation. Put simply, significant effort will be required on both sides to ensure that the level of intelligence and information-sharing remains roughly the same.
"Given the severity and international nature of cyber, and the importance of the UK in the global economy and the intelligence community, it is difficult to see how information and intelligence exchange between the UK and continental Europe, which is mutually beneficial, would be materially curtailed."
