Fieldfisher has made a significant addition to its corporate team with the appointment of David Kent as a partner. David will lead the Fieldfisher Inward Investment team having formerly been a partner and Head of Inward Investment (UK) at Taylor Wessing. He will join the firm in mid-September.
David has been with Taylor Wessing since qualifying. He specialises in advising emerging growth and listed companies from the US, Canada, Europe and elsewhere. This includes structuring, establishing and operating businesses in the UK and Europe, mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures, technology transfers, distribution and licensing agreements.
David represents corporations and companies across capital markets, manufacturing and service areas, media and publishing companies and technology companies. His particular specialisation includes advising companies in the cloud, software, hardware, digital media, telecoms and life sciences sectors across North America. Many of these overseas companies are regarded as the leading companies in their sectors.
During his time at Taylor Wessing, David was responsible for many US public and private companies. He was also co-founder of the firm's Cambridge office. He initiated the discussions with Wessing, which led to the formation of Taylor Wessing. David was also the co-founder of Taylor Wessing's Tech City office in 2011.
Fieldfisher Managing Partner Michael Chissick said:
"This is a hugely significant hire for us, and is indicative of the direction the firm is moving in. Following on the heels of the lateral hires of Neil Matthews and Alex Campbell, David's arrival to head up and coordinate our Inward Investment group is further evidence of our commitment to build on our strengths and broaden the offering we provide to our clients. David's practice fits well with our strengths in technology, telecoms and life sciences, while his connections in Silicon Valley and across the US will be a major benefit to both our London team and our Palo Alto office."
Andrew Blankfield, head of corporate at Fieldfisher, added:
"David's arrival will be a major step in our campaign to strengthen the firm's corporate offering in our key geographic and sector markets, which is already bearing fruit. We have acted for many years for companies investing and establishing operations in the United Kingdom, and David will help us to take that practice to another level. We very much look forward to welcoming him to Fieldfisher in September."
Fieldfisher opened an office in California in September 2012 located in Silicon Valley's focal point, Palo Alto. It is able to bring its European offering closer to local clients seeking advice in the EU or contemplating European investment. This includes advice on corporate structures, technology, data protection, IP, digital media and litigation.
