We advise on international intangibles taxation concerning patents and other intellectual property rights in the UK, Belgium, and internationally.
There is considerable political and media interest in the taxation of intangibles. The ability of companies to structure their IP ownership in a tax-efficient way – typically by siting their intellectual property in a low tax country and paying royalties to it from other, often higher tax, countries – has come under attack from commentators all over the world.
We work with our clients on a bespoke basis to help them find the right strategic location for their intellectual property. We believe it is most important for companies to hold their intellectual property in a stable country with good protection for IP rights. Several such countries (including the UK with its Patent Box regime) have advantageous tax regimes for holding intellectual property.
