Our firm has a long tradition of advising charities. We pioneered the recognition of overseas charities as UK charities, including the first registration in the UK of a Portuguese charity and the recognition of a Japanese government body as a charity for rates relief and VAT purposes.
We act for a diverse range of charities on formation, constitutional, commercial and regulatory issues as well as on mergers. We draw on expertise from across the firm to provide the best advice to charity clients, and advise other not-for-profit bodies and social enterprises, including community interest companies.
We provide tax consultancy and tax disputes advice, and we also assist private clients with their charitable giving and our corporate clients with corporate social responsibility activities. We have practical experience of acting as charity trustees and directors of not-for-profit bodies.
We have been ranked in Legal 500 UK 2014 and described as providing 'the advice needed, often to very tight deadlines'.
