This week, JAUSAS law firm, one of Spain’s leading practices specialising in corporate and high asset advisory, commemorates its 50th anniversary. JAUSAS was founded in 1965 in Barcelona by Agustí Jausàs as a firm designed to serve medium and large companies in matters of Commercial Law and Mergers and Acquisitions, particularly in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry. In its 50-year history, JAUSAS has orchestrated several mergers with other legal advisory firms, enabling it to expand to its current volume of over 80 professionals at its offices in Barcelona and Madrid. Last year, JAUSAS’s gross turnover totalled EUR 10.03 million, a 10% increase from the previous year’s earnings. During the 50th anniversary celebration, the chairman of the firm, Agustín Bou, expressed his satisfaction about the fact that JAUSAS has been able to adapt to the times, while remaining true to its values. “We are a medium-sized company and we are proud of that because it enables us to remain close to our clients at a time when the world is globalised and the ways of practicing law are changing. We are able to serve our clients through proximity and many of them have become friends,” Agustín Bou said before an audience of more than 200 representatives from multinationals and small- and medium- sized companies. The chairman of JAUSAS insisted that the challenge of remaining a medium-sized firm does not preclude having global reach. “We must be able to provide comfort to clients the world over. That requires grabbing your suitcase and finding the best firms in each country,” Agustín Bou maintained. For his part, the firm’s founder, Agustí Jausàs, attributed the success of the company throughout its history to “experience, which is nothing more than knowing how to persevere and learn from one’s mistakes.” Jausàs observed that the qualities of a good lawyer are empathy, an in-depth knowledge of all areas of Law, and the ability to understand the value of things. “I’ve seen my share of failings caused by specialists. Some lawyers, when faced with a tax issue, for example, only focus on the tax issue without realising that there may an underlying social problem. Obviously, specialisation is essential, but it is secondary to an extensive command of the Law in general,” he remarked. During the 50th anniversary celebration, the chairman of JAUSAS presented the Hospital San Joan de Déu with EUR 22,620 in donations collected from employees, clients, and friends of the firm to benefit the “Tinc un somni” project. This project aims to improve research on Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy, for which 200 children are currently being treated at the medical centre. The project was launched several months ago by the family of Pau Morales, one of the children affected by the Becker variant of the disease. The funds raised by JAUSAS were collected by Mercè Tura, coordinator of research projects at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, and Dr. Cecilia Jiménez, coordinator of the research applied to neuromuscular diseases.
