Government response to the Francis Review and the Duty of Candour

The Government has published it's response to the Francis Review, which made recommendations to be taken into account following the inquiry into failings at Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust. It has agreed to the vast majority of recommendations, however it has only accepted a Legal Duty of Candour for cases where serious injury or death has occured. This is not what Francis intended and is not what patients need. The NHS requires openness and honesty so that patients know where they stand.
