Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme Regulations

The Government have brought in regulations to establish a new Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme under the Mesothelioma Act 2014. The regulations will allow the Government to establish such a scheme for the purpose of making payments to eligible people with diffuse mesothelioma and also to eligible dependents of those who have died with diffuse mesothelioma.

The payments available are set out in schedule 4 of the regulations. The level of payments are due to increase as a result of amending legislation due to come into force on 1 July 2014.

In anticipation of these Regulations the Government have already appointed administrators to run the scheme. It is expected that the administrators will start accepting applications perhaps before the end of April 2014 and that they
will start making payments to successful applicants in July 2014.
